    If an organisation disaffiliates from another, it breaks the official connection — a union leaving a national federation, a club leaving a league, a local party leaving a bigger party. It can also be used in the passive: a group is disaffiliated, meaning the bigger body has cut the tie, or the link has been formally ended. This is paperwork language, not street language. Though actually, unaffiliated is a different idea: that person or group was never an official member. Disaffiliate is about a bond that used to exist, and then was broken on purpose.
