The dinar is the standard unit of money in several countries, the name you see on prices and . Serbia uses it in Europe; across North Africa and the Middle East you will meet the Algerian, Tunisian, Libyan, Iraqi, Jordanian, , and Bahraini dinar, among others. North Macedonia’s unit is the denar — almost the same word, a close cousin, not a different idea. How much one dinar buys depends entirely on which country you mean: a dinar is very strong; other dinars are not. The name comes from Arabic dīnār, and that came from the old Roman silver coin, the denarius. Spanish dinero (“money”) is from the same Latin word.
