    To dilly-dally is to waste time because you cannot decide, or because you will not get started. You hang about. You put the thing off. It is informal, a little old-fashioned, and often said with a smile — a parent telling a child not to dilly-dally by the door, or a friend teasing you for hovering over two menus. It is not the cold essay word procrastinate; it is spoken English. Though actually, the real verb inside it is dally: to instead of moving. The dilly is just the playful double, the way English sometimes repeats a word to make it bounce.
