A dildo is a sex toy shaped like a penis. A person uses it for sexual pleasure, often by putting it in the vagina or the . books often say a woman uses it, and that is a very common use — though actually people of any gender may use one, alone or with a partner. It names the object itself, not a person. It is a blunt adult word, at home in shops, clinics, and plain talk between adults; it is not a medical term, and it is not automatically a joke. Softer shop language often hides it behind other names. It has nothing to do with , even though the first letters look alike.
