Diffusion is the process of something spreading out gradually until it is evenly spread — you'll meet this word most in science class, where it describes how molecules move from where there are a lot of them to where there are fewer, like a drop of ink slowly spreading through water, or a smell spreading through a room. The same idea is used outside science too, for ideas, technology, or culture spreading between people or countries over time — 'cultural diffusion'.
