Diddly means nothing at all — zero. It is informal American, a bit , and you almost always hear it after a negative verb: I don't know diddly about cars means I know nothing. That means diddly means that is worth nothing. It is short for diddly-squat (people also say squat, or ruder versions). It is not a verb: you cannot diddly someone. Think of it as a colourful little noun for nothing, dropped in for flavour. Too for school essays; in careful English, say nothing or anything (I don't know anything).
