If something is dicey, it is a bit dangerous and you cannot be sure how it will turn out. The mountain road can be dicey in fog. A plan can be dicey if too many things have to go right. It is informal — fine with friends, odd in a school report. It is not as strong as dangerous; it sits in the “hmm, I don’t love this” zone. People also stretch it to mean socially awkward: a dicey question, a dicey moment at dinner. It comes from dice, the cubes you throw in a game, plus -y, the same ending as in lucky or risky. The picture is that you are leaving things to chance, and chance can go against you.
組成dice (the cubes you throw in a game of chance) + -y (having that quality).
