Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh, and the city where much of the country’s factory work and business sits. It is huge and crowded, not a quiet town. English used to spell the name Dacca; you will still see that in old books and old maps. It is the same place. The newer spelling is closer to the Bengali name. People say DAH-kuh. Though actually, many English speakers outside South Asia have never heard of Dhaka and mix it up with other capitals — so if a student has not met it, that is not strange.
