Desdemona is the main woman in Shakespeare's play Othello. She is Othello's wife: open, loyal, and not guilty of the thing she is killed for. , Othello's enemy, tricks Othello into believing she has another man. She does not. Othello kills her. The name was built from Greek pieces meaning something like ill-fated or unlucky — which, though actually, fits the story in a dark way. You meet her in literature class, and in talk about jealousy and how a lie can destroy someone who has done nothing wrong. She is a character in a play, not a word you use for a type of person in daily life.
