A depilatory is a cream, gel, or similar product that takes unwanted hair off the skin. You put it on, wait, then wipe or wash the hair away. People use it on legs, arms, or the face. On a shop label you will also see it as an adjective: a depilatory cream. It is a rather clinical, chemist-shop word; in everyday talk many people just say hair-removal cream. Though actually, it is not the same as shaving, which cuts hair, or waxing, which pulls hair out. A depilatory breaks the hair down so it comes off. It does not stop hair growing back forever.
