A depiction is the picture or the description itself — what you get when someone a thing. It can be a painting, a scene in a film, or a page in a book. People say a depiction of war, a depiction of family life, a depiction of the city. It is a slightly formal word. Though actually, a depiction is not the real thing; it is how someone has shown that thing. So one depiction can be kind, another can be cruel, and both can be of the same person. When a teacher asks whether a depiction is accurate, they are asking whether the picture matches life, not whether the paint is pretty.
