    Denmark is a country in northern Europe, sitting on top of Germany and with sea around most of it. It is part of , together with Norway and Sweden. The people are called , and they speak Danish. The capital is Copenhagen. Denmark is in the European Union. It is a small country: a little over five and a half million people lived there in 2014, and the number has grown only a little since. Though actually, the wider Kingdom of Denmark also includes and the Faroe Islands, far out in the North Atlantic; when people say “Denmark” in everyday talk, they usually mean the small European country itself, not those other lands.

組成From Old English Denemearc: Dene (“Dane”) + mearc (“march,” a borderland). It copies Old Norse Danmǫrk, “the Danes’ borderland.”
