    Delhi is a huge city in northern India. People often talk about it as two layers that sit together: New Delhi, which is the capital of India, with government buildings and wide planned streets; and Old Delhi, the older, denser historic city, with the old town and its markets. In everyday English, Delhi can mean the whole urban area, while New Delhi names the capital in particular — though actually the two names get mixed in loose talk, and even news reports are not always tidy about it. Locals often say a form closer to Dilli; the English spelling Delhi is an older reshaping of that name. It is a place name, so it takes a capital letter.

組成The English name is a reshaping of Hindustani dehlī / dihlī (देहली / دہلی), from Classical Persian dihlī. The deeper origin of that name is uncertain.
