Delaware is a small US state on the Atlantic coast, tucked under New Jersey and beside Maryland. books often put it in the Northeast; many Americans group that strip as the Mid-Atlantic instead — you will hear both. It was one of the original thirteen colonies under British rule, and it was the first to accept the US Constitution, so people there call it the First State. The capital is Dover; Wilmington is the city outsiders name most. It is tiny: you can cross it in a short drive. People also joke that a huge number of US companies “live” in Delaware on paper, because its business laws are friendly; that is about firms, not about everyone who resides there. This entry is the state. The same name is also used for a river, and English speakers once used it for the Lenape people of that river.
組成The river in the northeastern United States was named for Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr (1577–1618). The people and the state were named for the river.
