A declamation is the loud, speaking itself — the speech, the reciting, or the whole act of throwing words at an audience so they notice you. It can mean one performance (“his declamation of the poem”) or the style of speaking (“a long declamation against the government”). In some schools it is also the name of a contest: students learn a speech and deliver it with feeling and gestures. The word is a little old and formal. In ordinary talk people are more likely to say speech, rant, or performance. When someone calls a talk a declamation, they often mean it sounded big and emotional, and perhaps not very close or natural — more like a show than a conversation. Same family as ; this is the noun. Do not mix it with declaration, which is an official statement (a country declaring independence, a person declaring income).
