Decking is a wooden floor built outdoors, usually next to a house or in a garden, so people can walk, sit, and eat above the ground. In British English, decking often names both the finished platform and the boards used to make it. Americans more often just call the whole thing a deck. It is home-and-garden English, everyday if you care about houses. New decking may be real wood or a plastic-wood mix that lasts longer in rain. Though actually, people stretch “decking” a little: some of it is barely wood at all now.
