To decimalize is to change money, or a system of measuring, so that everything is counted in tens. Britain decimalized its money in 1971: before that, a pound was 20 shillings and 240 pence, which was hard to calculate; after that, one pound was 100 pence. A country can also decimalize weights and measures, moving toward units that split by ten. You meet the verb in history, news, and economics, not in everyday chat. American spelling is decimalize; British spelling often uses decimalise. Though actually, it does not mean “use a decimal point in maths class” — that is a much smaller idea.
