A decal is a picture or pattern on a special piece of paper (or vinyl) that you stick onto a surface — a laptop, a car window, a model plane, a water bottle. In American English this is the usual word; British speakers often say sticker or transfer instead. Some decals you peel and stick; older ones you wet and slide, which was the original trick. Though actually, people now use decal for almost any decorative sticker, even when nothing is being 'transferred' in the old way. There is also a verb, less common in everyday talk: to decal something is to put decals on it.
