    If something is debatable, people do not all agree, so you cannot treat it as settled. “That’s debatable” is a polite, slightly dry way to say “I don’t think that’s true.” Though actually, it does not mean there will be a real debate on a stage; it only means the point is still open. We use it of claims, numbers, and decisions — not of people. It is everyday English, not only for debate club.
