Debasement is the act, or the result, of making something worth less or less respected. Historians talk about the debasement of coins. Critics talk about the debasement of public life, of art, or of language. It covers the same ground as debase, but as a noun. Formal, and a little heavy: you meet it in essays and news analysis more than in chat.
