In ancient Greek myth, Daphne is a nymph — a young female spirit of the wild. The god Apollo falls in love with her and chases her. She does not want him.
In ancient Greek myth在古希臘神話裡, Daphne is a nymph達芙妮是一位nymph(寧芙)—— a young female spirit of the wild也就是野外的年輕女性精靈。 The god Apollo falls in love with her太陽神阿波羅愛上了她 and chases her並追著她跑。 She does not want him她並不想要他。
As he is about to catch her, she prays to be saved (in the usual telling, to her father, a river god, or to Earth), and she is turned into a laurel tree. Apollo, still in love, makes the laurel his tree: winners’ wreaths in later Greece were leaves of that tree.
As he is about to catch her就在他快追上她的時候, she prays to be saved她祈求有人救她 (in the usual telling, to her father, a river god, or to Earth)(常見的版本裡是向她父親,一位河神,或向大地祈求), and she is turned into a laurel tree於是她變成了一棵月桂樹。 Apollo, still in love阿波羅仍然愛著她, makes the laurel his tree就把月桂樹當成自己的樹: winners' wreaths in later Greece were leaves of that tree後來希臘的優勝者花冠就是用這種樹的葉子做的。
The story is not a romance with a happy couple; it is a story about pursuit and escape, and about a girl who would rather become wood than be taken.
