A daiquiri is a sweet alcoholic drink made with rum and fruit juice. The classic one is rum, lime juice, and a little sugar, shaken with ice. Bars also blend frozen ones, and a strawberry daiquiri is the kind many people know first. It is a cocktail: party and beach-bar drink, not everyday table drink. You order “a daiquiri,” or name the fruit. The name comes from a beach in Cuba. Say it roughly DY-kuh-ree, three beats. It is rum, not beer or wine, and the fruit does not take the alcohol away.
