Czechoslovakia was a country in central Europe. It is not a country any more. In 1993 it split, quietly and without a war, into two countries: the Czech Republic (Czechia) and . Newspapers sometimes called that split the “Velvet Divorce”, a nickname, not an official title. Older maps, passports, and family stories still say Czechoslovakia, and that is not a mistake about the past. If someone says they were born in Czechoslovakia, they mean the country that used to be there. For today, you name the two new countries separately.
