A cutie is someone you find attractive and nice — pretty, sweet, a bit adorable. It is informal and warm. Friends say it; someone who is a little flirty says it. You can call a child a cutie with no romance in it at all; with adults it can lean toward I think you're cute. It is not a serious word. You would not put it in a school report or a job reference. It is built from cute plus the friendly little ending -ie, the kind that makes a name feel small and fond. Though actually, with adults it can sound too familiar if you do not know the person well, and in some mouths it sounds a bit American or a bit old-fashioned. There is also a small orange sold under a brand name Cuties — that is a fruit label, not this meaning.
