A curacy is a church job, and also the stretch of time someone spends in that job. The person is a curate: in the Church of England and similar churches, usually a priest who is still learning the work, helping the main priest of a parish. People say “his first curacy” the way teachers say “her first post” — it names a stage, not a forever title. You will almost only hear this in church talk, church history, or rather formal writing. It is not a medicine word, though actually an older church use of “cure” meant the care of a group of souls, the people a priest looks after. Everyday English has almost dropped “curacy”; if a student never meets it outside a dictionary, that is normal.
