Cupping is a body treatment: a therapist puts special cups on your skin, often after warming them, and the air inside pulls the skin up a little. It can leave round red or purple marks for a few days. In Taiwan this is 拔罐, and people go to a Chinese-medicine clinic or a massage shop for it, not usually to a Western hospital doctor. Sometimes the cups only suck; sometimes a therapist also lets out a little blood. Both are still called cupping in English. The name is simply from the cups. Though the same English word can also mean making a cup shape with your hands, this entry is the treatment.
