Cunard is a British company that runs journeys by sea for pleasure — cruises — and still runs a true ocean liner across the Atlantic. Its most famous passenger ship today is the Queen Mary 2, often called the QM2. The line is old. Samuel Cunard started it in the nineteenth century, and for a long time its ships carried mail and people between Britain and North America. Later famous names in the same family of ships include Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. Though actually, people sometimes say "Cunard" as if it meant any grand old passenger ship. The Titanic was not Cunard's; that was a rival line. Today Cunard is a luxury brand, and the word is a company name, always with a capital C. You will see it on tickets, on the side of a ship, and in travel ads, not as a common noun.
