A bird known for a strange habit: instead of raising its own babies, it lays its eggs in another bird's nest, so the other bird ends up feeding and raising the cuckoo's chick without realizing it's not its own. The word is also used to mean 'a little crazy or silly' (he's gone completely cuckoo). A cuckoo clock is a wall clock with a small bird that pops out and makes a 'cuckoo' sound to mark the hour.
