In Britain, a CTC is a kind of secondary school. The letters stand for City Technology College. The government and private companies both put money into these schools. Young people study the usual subjects there, but the school also spends a lot of time on technical skill — science, design, machines, and work that might lead to a job. They began in England in the late 1980s. There were never many of them, and most later became another kind of school called an academy. People outside Britain almost never use this name. It is not a university, not an American community college, and not what Taiwan calls a 科大.
