Used of the thing that completes something, or that is its finest part — the moment or feature that sits at the top. A crowning achievement is the greatest thing someone has done. A crowning glory is the part people remember and admire. The picture comes from putting a crown on a king or queen: the last, highest honour. English then stretched that picture to anything that finishes a story in the best way. You will meet it in fairly careful writing and speeches more than in playground talk. (There is also a medical use, when a baby's head is crowning in birth — that is a different meaning, not this one.)
