A crocus is a small flower that comes up very early in spring, sometimes when the mornings are still cold. The flowers are usually purple, yellow, or white, and they sit low, close to the ground, on a short stem. plant them because they are one of the first signs that winter is ending. Though actually, not every crocus is only for looking at: one kind is the plant that saffron comes from — those thin red threads used in cooking. Most garden crocuses, though, are just pretty, not for food. It is more a garden word than a street word; in everyday talk someone might just say “those little spring flowers.”
組成English took it as a learned word from Latin crocus, from Ancient Greek κρόκος (krókos, “crocus”). That Greek word is thought to have come from an ancient Semitic language.
