Criteria are the standards or rules you use to judge or decide something — like the things a job requires, or what a teacher checks when grading. Important: 'criteria' is already plural. The word for just ONE standard is 'criterion', though in real life, especially spoken English, people often say 'criteria' even for one, and many teachers won't correct it.
