Crewe is a town in , in the northwest of England. It is famous as a railway town: trains from many parts of Britain meet there, and for a long time people built and repaired trains there too. When British people say “change at Crewe”, they mean the junction — you get off one train and onto another. It is only a place name, not a common noun, and it is not the word crew (the people who work a ship or plane), even though it sounds exactly the same. You will see it on maps, tickets, and football scores (Crewe Alexandra is the local club). It is an ordinary English town that history made important because of the railway, not because it is a capital or a resort.
組成Recorded as Creu in the Domesday Book. From Old Welsh criu, a weir or a crossing (compare modern Welsh cryw). So the name is about a place where you could cross the water — not about a ship’s crew.
