A crease is a line left in cloth, paper, or skin when it's folded, pressed, or crushed. Some creases are wanted — a sharp, ironed crease down the front of trousers looks neat and formal. Others are unwanted — creases from being crumpled in a bag look messy. In sports like cricket, hockey, and , 'the crease' is also the name for a specific marked line or area on the field where certain rules apply. As a verb, to crease means to make or get one of these lines — 'this fabric creases easily' means it easily and doesn't stay smooth.
