Crackberry is a joke name for a BlackBerry phone, used when someone cannot stop checking it, as if they needed it like a drug. Newspapers and office workers used it a lot in the 2000s, when that brand was famous for work email. It is humorous and informal, a little sharp, and it is not the company’s real name. Though actually, few people carry a BlackBerry now, so the joke is dated — younger students may never have seen one. The laugh depends on knowing both the old phone and that crack is a very addictive drug; without that, the word just looks like a fruit.
