A cowshed is a farm building where cows are kept — to sleep, to stay dry, or to be milked. It is a simple, practical word, more British than American (in the US people often say barn). It is not grand: a shed is a plain building, and a cowshed is just that, for cows. You might still hear it in the countryside. On a big modern dairy farm the building may be much larger, and people may say cow house or parlour instead.
