You might describe a small wooden house, a thick accent, a kitchen full of dried flowers, or someone's slow way of talking as countrified. Here's the honest part, though. The word carries a small sneer more often than not. When a city person says a place is countrified, they usually mean it's a bit behind the times, a bit simple, not quite smart enough. So it can hurt if you say it about a person. Say "he's a bit countrified" and English speakers will hear "he doesn't quite know how the city works." But it has a second life, and this one is warm: things that are made countrified on purpose. A café in the middle of Taipei with old wooden chairs and checked tablecloths is countrified — nobody there grew up on a farm, they chose that look. Here it means cosy, homely, deliberately old-fashioned. Whether the word is a criticism or a compliment depends almost entirely on whether the country feeling came naturally or was bought. You may also see it spelled countryfied. Both are fine. It's not a common word — much rarer than rural or country — and it sounds a little dated, the kind of word an older writer reaches for.
