Cottaging is a British word for when a gay man goes to a public toilet hoping to meet another man for sex. In this old slang, people called those toilets cottages — which is confusing, because a cottage is also a little country house. The word is mainly British, a little dated now, and it names a secret, risky kind of meeting, not a holiday in the countryside. It is not a polite classroom word, but you may see it in news, law, or history. In many places, sex in a public toilet is against the law.
