A corgi is a small dog with very short legs, a long back, and a face that comes to a point, a little like a fox. The two well-known kinds both come from Wales: the Pembroke Welsh corgi, which often looks as if it has almost no tail, and the Cardigan Welsh corgi, which keeps a tail. They were farm dogs that moved cattle by nipping at their heels. Queen Elizabeth II kept Pembroke corgis for many years, which is why so many people picture that kind first — though actually not every corgi is short-tailed, and not every small short-legged dog is a corgi. In English the usual plural is corgis. The Welsh plural corgwn exists, but you almost never need it in English.
