A corer is a kitchen tool, a specially shaped knife or a small tube, for taking the hard centre out of fruit. The usual picture is an apple corer: you push it through the middle and pull out the core, the tough part with the seeds, so the rest is ready to eat or cook. There are similar tools for and other fruit, and some that take the core out and cut the fruit into slices in one go. It is a quiet, practical word. You see it on a shop label, not in a story. The -er here means a tool that does a job, not a person. The person in the kitchen is not a corer.
