Cordiality is a kind of friendliness that stays polite and a little stiff. When two people treat each other with cordiality, they smile, they say kind things, they are pleasant — but they are not being close or casual. You hear the word in news, in letters, and when countries or companies meet. A visit can pass in an atmosphere of cordiality even when nobody really trusts anybody. In everyday talk, most of us would just say someone was friendly or warm. Cordiality often has a bit of distance in it: you can show cordiality to a neighbour you do not actually like. It does not mean deep love. It means a civil, good-mannered warmth. It is the noun that belongs with the adjective cordial in the warm-but-formal sense, not the sweet fruit drink.
