A coracle is a small round, or almost round, boat. You sit in it and move with a . The old ones had a light wooden frame with skin or canvas stretched over it, so a person could carry one on their back down to the river. They belong to Wales and other Celtic places — working boats for fishing and crossing, not toys, though they look almost like bowls on the water. Irish English has a cousin word, currach, for a related kind of boat. It is a special old-world word. You will not need it for city life, but it turns up in history, travel, and nature writing.
