    Cor! is a British cry of surprise or of being impressed, close to wow or gosh. Cor, look at that! It is informal, spoken English. To some ears it sounds a bit old or comic — the kind of thing British television puts in a character’s mouth, not the kind of thing you put in a school essay. Though actually it is a soft stand-in for God: people did not want to say the holy name as a shout, so the sound slid. Americans do not use it. There are other, rare cors in old books, but this one in the street is only the little shout.
