    A convent is a house, or a group of buildings, where nuns live. Nuns are women who have given their life to God in a religious community, often Catholic. They pray, work, and keep a shared rule of life there. A convent can be one quiet house, or a larger place with a chapel, a garden, and rooms for guests. People sometimes say , but that word is old-fashioned and can sound like a joke. Monastery is the usual word for a place where monks — men — live; convent is the word you want for nuns. In much older English, convent could mean any gathering, but today it almost always means the nuns’ house.

組成From Latin conventus, “a gathering,” from the same verb as convene (con- + venio, come together). English got it through Old French covent. It is a historical twin (doublet) of coven.
