To convect is to move heat by convection: warm gas or liquid rises, cooler gas or liquid sinks, and heat rides along with that movement. Scientists may say that air convects upward from a heater, or that water in a pan convects as it warms. This is a specialist verb. Most people never use it at all; they use the noun convection, or they just say hot air rises. Though actually, the verb is the newcomer. People already had convection, and later they built convect from it (a back-formation), the way a textbook might invent a tidy verb to match a famous noun. You will meet it in physics and earth science, almost never in daily talk. Heat can also move by conduction (through a still object) or radiation (as rays); convect is only the 'fluid moving' way.
