Describes a person (or sometimes an animal) who is having trouble passing solid waste: the stool is hard, and going to the toilet is difficult or does not happen often. It is an ordinary health word — doctors, parents, and medicine packets all use it. You say someone is constipated, or feels constipated. Though actually, people also stretch it in a way about writing or speech that will not come out smoothly (“constipated prose”), but that is informal, and the body meaning is the one you need first.
