Consequences (often written with a capital C) is an old party and parlour game, not the ordinary word for “results.” A small group writes a story together, but nobody sees the whole thing until the end. Each person adds one bit — a man, a woman, where they met, what he said, what she said — then folds the paper to hide it and passes it on. The last line is supposed to begin “The consequence was…” Then you unfold the page and read the silly story aloud. The stories are usually about famous people or friends, in funny or embarrassing situations. It is a British, rather old-fashioned game, still pulled out at parties and sometimes in English class. The name is simply that last sentence. Though actually, once you are playing, people care more about the laugh than about a real “result.” This is not the everyday noun consequences meaning what follows from a choice.
