A concussion is an injury to the brain caused by a hard hit or a fall, for example in a car accident or during a sport like football. It can make a person feel , confused, or sick, even if there is no cut or blood, and doctors take it seriously and tell people to rest afterward. You will also hear the word used more generally for the shaking, shocking effect of a big explosion — 'the concussion of the blast shook the windows' — but the brain-injury sense is the one you will meet most.
