A book, or a collection, that gathers a lot of information about one subject and puts it together in one organized place, usually in a shorter, easier-to-use form than reading many separate books. For example, a compendium of games, or a compendium of world history. It's a fairly formal, word.
組成From Latin "compendium", built from com- (together) and pendere (to weigh) — the idea of "weighing things together" turned into the idea of a saved, gathered-up summary.
