A communiqué is an official report or announcement, usually from a government, an army, or a formal meeting of leaders. Newspapers reach for it when the tone is stiff and public: the two countries issued a joint communiqué. It is not a casual update, a text, or a school notice. In ordinary office life people say announcement or statement; communiqué keeps the diplomatic, on-the-record flavour. English borrowed the French word as it was, including the é, rather than rebuilding it.
